Nothing is Ever Wasted
Last week, while I was swimming on vacation, I could feel all of these past versions of myself returning home.
I’ve been visiting the High Desert in California for nine years, first for work, then for pleasure, and it’s become a touchstone where I feel into the question: who am I now?
In astrology, every year one of the 12 houses in your chart is the active, or profected house for the year, and the topics associated with that house are highlighted.
I was thinking back to one of the first years I ever visited this area, when I was in a fifth house profection year, which amplifies creativity, self-expression, sexuality, joy, hobbies, children/childhood.
Looking back on that year, I had big goals for myself. I felt like I was in a critical point in my career. My inner dialogue was, “I have to make it. This is the year I have to make it.”
I spent that trip hunkered down in an airstream I rented for cheap, eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and writing, writing, writing, a novel—a project I totally ended up ditching.
If I could go back in time, I would want to relieve so much pressure off her shoulders and tell her: “This year is one year of many, many years of all of the books of your life. There is no deadline. You don’t have to get it all done this year.”
I think this is one of the greatest gifts astrology has given me:
Understanding where I’m located in the story.
Understanding that nothing is ever wasted.
Understanding that every moment is weaving my authentic life story.
